Three Ways to Style the Patek Philippe 3940J

A client recently asked us to explore several strap options for his Patek Philippe 3940J, with a preference for the softer textures of our Suede and Nubuck collections.

Rather than staying with the more familiar smooth leather choices, we selected three colours that each bring a different character to the watch: Suede Sage, Suede Navy and Nubuck Café.

Suede Sage

Sage introduces a soft, muted contrast to the yellow-gold case. Its subtle grey-green tone feels distinctive without becoming too prominent, while the suede texture gives the pairing a more relaxed character.

It is an understated choice for someone who would like to move beyond traditional brown or navy, while keeping the overall combination refined and easy to wear.

Suede Navy

Navy creates a clean and classic contrast with yellow gold. In suede, however, the colour feels softer and less formal than a smooth navy leather.

Among the three options, this is perhaps the most versatile: restrained from a distance, but with enough texture to keep the pairing from feeling conventional.

Nubuck Café

Nubuck Café follows the warmth of the case rather than contrasting with it. The rich coffee-brown tone creates a harmonious, tonal pairing, while the softly brushed surface adds depth and a subtle vintage feeling.

This is the warmest of the three combinations and a natural choice for someone who prefers an understated, cohesive look.

One Watch, Three Directions

The three straps offer very different interpretations:

  • Suede Sage — soft, muted and slightly unexpected

  • Suede Navy — classic, balanced and versatile

  • Nubuck Café — warm, tonal and quietly vintage

Sometimes, changing the colour and texture of a strap is all it takes to see a familiar watch from a different perspective.
