Strap Pairing for the Otsuka Lotec No. 7.5: Preserving Its Industrial Camera Character

Some watches call for a completely new look. Others already have such a distinctive identity that the strap should simply support it.

When a client asked us to recommend a strap for his Otsuka Lotec No. 7.5, he shared one clear preference:

“I would love something that maintains the industrial camera look and am very open to any suggestions.”

With that in mind, we wanted to avoid anything overly formal, polished or colorful. The aim was to preserve the cool, mechanical character the client appreciated while introducing the natural texture and warmth of leather.

We created two visual proposals in Togo leather: Bleu Nuit and Étain.

Togo Bleu Nuit

Bleu Nuit is a very deep navy that can appear almost black in lower light. It creates a strong contrast against the silver-toned case without introducing an obviously bright color.

The natural grain of Togo leather adds texture, while the ecru stitching gives the strap more definition. The overall result remains restrained but feels slightly deeper and richer than a purely monochromatic pairing.

This would be our recommendation for someone who wants to maintain the watch’s industrial appearance while adding a subtle element of color.

Togo Étain

Étain creates a quieter and more tonal combination.

Its cool grey color sits naturally alongside the metal case, allowing the unusual appearance of the watch to remain the main focus. Compared with Bleu Nuit, the transition between the watch and strap feels softer and more seamless.

The Togo grain keeps the strap from appearing too flat, while the ecru stitching adds gentle contrast without making the pairing feel overly decorative.

This option would suit someone looking for the most understated and cohesive result.

Two Different Directions

Both colors respond to the same request, but in slightly different ways:

• Bleu Nuit creates stronger contrast and adds subtle depth.
• Étain follows the tones of the case for a more unified appearance.

There is no single correct choice. Bleu Nuit gives the watch a slightly stronger presence, while Étain allows the strap to blend more quietly into the overall design.

For this project, both straps were proposed in 20mm × 18mm, with contrasting ecru stitching.

Letting the Watch Lead

When pairing a strap with such a distinctive watch, we believe the strap does not always need to make an additional statement.

Sometimes its role is simply to respect what already makes the watch special.
