Beyond the Watch Strap: A Card Holder Made for Everyday Life

At Atelier Tamago, our work has always begun with small objects.

A watch strap may occupy only a little space on the wrist, yet it accompanies its owner through much of the day. Over time, it softens, develops character and quietly becomes part of the way a watch is worn and enjoyed. This relationship between craftsmanship and everyday life has always been at the heart of what we make.

Our new card holder grew naturally from this same idea.

From the Wrist to the Pocket

We did not want to create something simply because it was new or different from a watch strap. Instead, we wanted to explore how the qualities we value in our strapmaking could be carried into another object used every day.

A card holder is simple by nature. Its purpose is familiar, and there is little room for unnecessary detail. This simplicity makes the proportions, the leather and the finishing especially important. Every element has to feel considered.

Like a well-made strap, it should be comfortable to use, refined without drawing too much attention to itself, and able to become more personal with time.

Chèvre Sully Leather

For this collection, we chose Chèvre Sully, a goatskin leather appreciated for its fine grain, lightness and durability.

The natural texture gives the leather a subtle sense of depth while helping it remain practical for everyday use. It feels refined in the hand, but it is not overly delicate—an important balance for something that may travel between a pocket, a bag and a desk throughout the day.

As the card holder is used, the leather will gradually develop its own character. Small changes in touch and appearance are part of what makes a personal leather object feel increasingly familiar to its owner.

Made with the Same Attention

Although the form is different, our approach remains the same as it is with our watch straps.

Each card holder is individually made and carefully finished by our artisan. The edges, stitching and proportions are considered together so that the finished piece feels balanced and comfortable in the hand.

Working on a small scale allows us to pay attention to details that may not be immediately noticeable, but that shape the experience of using the piece over time. For us, craftsmanship is not about adding decoration. It is about giving care to the parts that matter.

Four Quietly Distinctive Colours

The first collection is available in five shades: Gold, Marine, Bordeaux and Forest Green.

Each colour has a different character. Gold brings warmth; Marine feels classic and understated; Bordeaux adds depth without appearing too formal; and Forest Green has a rich tone that remains easy to use every day.

We selected these colours to feel distinctive while still fitting naturally into daily life—much like the leather shades we enjoy pairing with watches.

An Object to Keep Close

The card holder is a modest extension of Atelier Tamago, but a meaningful one.

It reflects our belief that the objects we use most often do not need to be loud or complicated. They simply need to be thoughtfully made, pleasant to use and capable of staying with us for a long time.

From the wrist to the pocket, the purpose remains the same: to create small, personal pieces that quietly become part of everyday life.
